Green Gulch Farm is a Buddhist practice center in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition offering training in Zen meditation, study, and gardening. It is located in Marin County, just north of San Francisco, in a valley that opens out onto the Pacific Ocean at Muir Beach. While it is a residential monastery, it also includes a guest house and conference center. Founded in 1972, the center also manages an organic farm and gardens in holding of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The lands were purchased from rancher George Wheelwright, a co-founder of Polaroid, with the stipulation that the farm always remain open to the public. Towards that end, Green Gulch offers a meditation service every Sunday to the public and no reservation is necessary.
